The 2023 Gulf Energy Information Excellence Awards was held on the evening of October 11, 2023 at the Post Oak Hotel in Houston, Texas (U.S.). The black-tie gala recognized the energy industry’s leading innovations and thought leaders. “Competition was spirited this year, as there were more than 400 nominations, from which 180+ finalists emerged. This is a record number of nominations, so even being selected as a finalist is a major achievement.” said Kurt Abraham, World Oil’s Editor-in-Chief and Chief Forecaster. Honorees received awards in 43 categories, encompassing the full breadth of the energy industry. Today’s innovations, many of which would have seemed far-fetched a generation ago, are enabling operators to find and produce hydrocarbons more safely, economically, and efficiently.

Deep Seed Solutions, Repsol Sinopec Brasil, Shell Brasil, and ExxonMobil won the Best Digital Transformation – Upstream for their FLOCO® (Field Layout Concept Optimizer, competing against four other technologies from renowned companies).

FLOCO®, developed by Deep Seed Solutions, automatically generates concepts of offshore oil & gas production systems based on the extensive range of equipment, systems, and construction resources available in the industry. After automatically generating the conceptual options, the software organizes and ranks the concepts based on economic KPIs, such as CAPEX, OPEX, NPV, IRR, and PAYBACK. FLOCO® contributes to a significant efficiency increase in generating offshore oil production systems, while considering more sustainable alternatives to minimize the emission of GHG into the atmosphere.
